Vanessa graduated from the University of Sydney in 2009, where she obtained her Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy). She was previously working in Changi General Hospital (CGH) since 2009, completing her rotations in Orthopaedics, Cardiopulmonary, Neuro Physiotherapy and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. Her final 2 years in CGH saw her practicing at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre, specializing in treating sports-related injuries and conditions. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Manual Therapy from the University of Western Australia.

Vanessa has a keen interest in badminton and has been involved in the sport competitively since her school days. She had represented the Ministry of Health for the Inter-Ministry Badminton competition since 2009, coming in at 3rd runners-up in 2011.

In 2011, Vanessa set up and pioneered the Eastern Community Health Outreach (ECHO) program in and was awarded the SHAQ silver award (2011) for her clinical services. She is also an ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Specialist and Certified RockTape practitioner. Out in the fields, Vanessa has been involved in the coverage of various sporting events such as OSIM Triathlons, Standard Charted Marathons, 2009 Asian Youth Games and 2012 Clash of Continents.
